Wrestling Legend, Captain Lou Albano, Passes

The Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum is saddened by the news of "Captain" Lou Albano's passing, and we send our deepest condolences to his wife, Geri, four children and fourteen grandchildren. Albano, whose real name was Louis Vincent Albano, died of natural causes at the age of 76. "Captain" Lou became one of the most recognizable personalities in modern professional wrestling, and he leaves behind a legacy of nearly fifty years in the business. Although he first entered wrestling in 1953, Albano gained widespread fame in the 1980s after playing the role of Cyndi Lauper's father in her music video for "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." While remaining active and incredibly popular in wrestling, Albano continued to find success outside the ring, reaching a whole new generation in the role of "Mario" in the hit "Super Mario Brothers Super Show" from 1989 to 1991. Albano was inducted into the PWHF in 2009.

The PWHF invites fans to share their memories of "Captain" Lou Albano on our blog, Facebook page and through Twitter.
